When I think of a delicious dessert that is as fancy as it is tasty, I always think of tiramisu. For the longest time, I wasn’t sure if I wanted to try making tiramisu, because I was a little worried about how the recipe would turn out. After all, tiramisu is a little bit more difficult than your average dessert.

But, I finally found a recipe I could try and accomplish with great success! So, if I can handle this recipe, then you definitely can—and should—too!

This dessert is perfect for those nights you want to go all out and treat your family to something special, or for those big family potlucks when you want to surprise everybody.

Not to mention, it’s great during any time of the year. You can have it out on the patio under the shade during summertime, or curled up by the fire with a blanket and a cup of hot chocolate during the winter. No matter why or when you decide to try the tiramisu recipe, it’s the perfect option.

In fact, even my kids and my husband enjoyed it! I worried my kids might not love it because they’re more “cake and ice cream” type. Are your kids like that, too? But, I could not have been more wrong! It was actually a huge hit for them, and they even asked me if I would make it again next week.

My husband also enjoyed a piece, and the tiramisu was a delicious treat for his extra sweet tooth. No matter which way you slice it, this recipe can be a huge hit for the entire family.

If you want to try making a new and different type of dessert, check out this extra special tiramisu recipe below. Let me know how it goes making it for you, and if you have any questions during the process!

TOP QUESTIONS I GET ASKED ABOUT THIS RECIPE:

WHERE IS TIRAMISU FROM?

While the origins of tiramisu are a little hazy, we definitely have the country of Italy to thank for this delectable little dessert. Some accounts for the origins of tiramisu date its invention back to the 1960s in the Veneto region of Italy, at a restaurant called “Le Beccherie” in Treviso. The dish is also claimed to have been first created by a man named Roberto Linguanotto, the owner of “Le Beccherie.” Thank you for this tasty treat, Roberto!

CAN YOU EAT TIRAMISU DURING PREGNANCY?

Unfortunately, many homemade desserts like mousse, meringue and tiramisu cannot be eaten during pregnancy because they contain raw eggs. While this is definitely a bummer, some grocery stores do sell pasteurized eggs, which are okay to eat raw while pregnant. So, you could always try switching out the regular eggs with those pasteurized. Of course, as always, if you are pregnant and feel concerned, call your doctor and check to see if this tiramisu recipe is for you.

CAN YOU MAKE TIRAMISU WITHOUT EGGS?

Whether you’re pregnant, allergic or simply trying to cut eggs out of your diet, you can still make a tasty tiramisu without eggs. Unfortunately, this recipe in particular does call for eggs, but there are plenty of others out there which have an eggless option. Give one a look, and I will be on the lookout to share more eggless recipes with you in the future!

Recipe:

Ingredients

6 egg yolks

3/4 cup white sugar

2/3 cup milk

1 1/4 cups heavy cream

1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract

1 pound mascarpone cheese

1/4 cup strong brewed coffee, room temperature

Instructions

In a medium saucepan, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until well blended. Whisk in milk and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture boils. Boil gently for 1 minute, remove from heat and allow to cool slightly. Cover tightly and chill in refrigerator 1 hour.

In a medium bowl, beat cream with vanilla until stiff peaks form. Whisk mascarpone into yolk mixture until smooth.

In a small bowl, combine coffee and rum. Split ladyfingers in half lengthwise and drizzle with coffee mixture.

Arrange half of soaked ladyfingers in bottom of a 7×11 inch dish. Spread half of mascarpone mixture over ladyfingers, then half of whipped cream over that. Repeat layers and sprinkle with cocoa. Cover and refrigerate 4 to 6 hours, until set.
